Blurring boundaries: when augmented reality meets environmental artistry at NYC’s ARTBOXEXPO

In the heart of the city that never sleeps, New York’s ARTBOXEXPO is gearing up to unveil a fresh era of artistic expression. Combining their strengths and visions, Gerhard Knolmayer, Sarah Montani, and APTIQ are showcasing a multi-generational and international collaboration, promising to dazzle and provoke thought.

From April 17th to 26th, 2023, visitors will be treated to two augmented reality art pieces, bearing witness to current global issues: « Augmented Reality Addresses Global Heating » and « A Tribute to Earth Day ». These works draw inspiration from Gerhard’s emblematic painting « A Blue Planet Turning Red ». This initially standalone piece later birthed two siblings, forming a powerful triptych: « Africa & Europe Turning Red » and « Asia & Oceania Turning Red ».

It’s not merely a portrayal of continents shifting colors, but a silent outcry concerning our planet’s warming. The glowing red shades conjure up images of barren lands and expanding deserts, highlighting the urgency of the climate situation.

By attending the exhibition, audiences are invited to dive into an immersive experience where traditional art and technology intersect. Through their smartphones, they’ll witness our world transform, prompting reflections on their individual impact on the environment.

It’s an invitation to contemplation, awareness, but also hope. Because by acknowledging the challenges, we can also begin to seek solutions.
